He was an adjunct professor at the UGA Law School and Mercer Law School and is currently a senior lecturer in Mercer's Philosophy Department. In 2002, President George W. Bush appointed him United States District Court Judge. Judge Royal is lead author in two legal treatises and has published articles in law journals.
