The book connects Michelangelo’s education within an environment marked by Byzantine artistic presence with his work. There are no publications that underscore the exposure of the Florentine artist to the culture of Byzantium, and this volume fills that gap.
Prof. Elena Ene Drăghici-Vasilescu teaches and researches in the fields of the History of Ideas (Philosophy, Art History) with particular focus on Late Antiquity and Medieval Studies. She does it for the University of Oxford and independently. Most recently her work has treated aspects of Mediterranean culture.
She is Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in Great Britain.
Dr. Vasilescu has published numerous books and articles with Oxford University Press, Palgrave, Routledge, Peeters, and Vasilescu Academic Oxford (her own publishing house). She is often invited to give lectures at national and international events.
