I found the answer step by step, in life stories that moved and inspired me. In each portrait, I sought not only success measured in awards, but also the human essence of achievement, the courage to begin, the discipline to continue, and the humility to remain human.
For me, this volume is not just a book. It is an act of gratitude, a gesture of respect toward those who, whether in silence or in the spotlight, have shaped the destiny of modern Romania. It is also a moral duty toward future generations: to show them that success is not an accident, but a construction built on the foundation of hard work and faith
A Project with a Mission
Post-1989 Romania has experienced every shade of transformation: enthusiasm, searching, imbalance, reconstruction, hope. Throughout this process, I felt.the absence of a visible reference point, a work that would clearly say: This is the bright face of Romania. The face of those who build, not those who destroy.
The Dictionary of Memorable Romanians after 1989 is the first editorial project of its kind in contemporary Romania. It is not merely an archive of biographies, but a chronicle of dignity, a collection of living examples meant to
inspire. A book designed to endure, to be opened and reopened over the years, as a reminder of what we have been and what we can become.
We wanted this work to have a genuine educational dimension. Therefore, it will reach high SCIMDOLS, universities, and libraries, as well as the digital space, through an interactive platform offering extended biographies, video interviews, and multimedia materials.
In a fast-paced world dominated by fleeting information, we want young pea* to have real role models, people who can show them that the Romanian dream is possible when it is sustained by hard work and integrity.
A Work for the Future
This dictionary does not mark an end, but a beginning. Romania has far more remarkable people than could ever fit in a single volume. Therefore, the project will continue, future editions will bring new generations, new fields, and new forms of excellence to public attention.The work is published both in Romanian and English, so that our values may cross borders and become part of Romania's cultural diplomacy. Special attention has been given to the editorial design. This book is not only meant to be read, but also preserved. Every detail, from the paper and print to the portraits and graphic composition, was conceived as a premium visual experience, worthy of those it presents.
On Gratitude and Personal Mission
For me, this journey has been one of discovery. I have come to understand that Romanian achievement carries a common thread: work done with passion, honesty, and faith.
Whether we speak of athletes who train before sunrise, entrepreneurs who started with nothing, or artists who conquer the world's stages, all these people share the same spirit: the belief that it can be done.
I am grateful to all the personalities who accepted to be part of this work, and to those who supported the idea from its earliest stages, institutions, partners, friends, and collaborators.
