Precocious 13-year-old Klara Tippins lives in a refurbished convent in upstate New York with her cumbersome family. She has a mission (of which she is only vaguely aware) and though her star family is there to help, she's not convinced of their presence and can't remember the guidance they give her while she sleeps.
